We stripped away every configuration option and replaced them with a single toggle: on or off. The compression pipeline converts assets to WebP and AVIF formats automatically on every request.

The biggest learning was that simplicity wins. Our first version had 12 configuration options — users ignored all of them. When we reduced it to zero options, conversion tripled. The second learning: performance scores are vanity metrics unless they translate to real business outcomes. We shifted our messaging from "99 Lighthouse score" to "faster sites convert better."
